The Institution was transformed from Taitung Open Prison’s Wuling Farm. On July 1, 1976, Wuling Farm was singled out as the first exclusive open prison in Taiwan, “Taiwan Wuling Open Prison.” On July 1, 1999, it was further transformed and renamed as “Taiwan Wuling Prison,” housing inmates with 5 years of imprisonment or less. On October 1, 2006, Taitung Drug Abuser Treatment Center , which was under one-roof operation with Taiwan Taitung Prison, moved to where Taiwan Wuling Prison stands now, so the former Taiwan Wuling Prison was accordingly dissolved
